Joint Dual-EFIKA (2.0) Webserver Evaluation Venture
Posted by: ironfist on Saturday, April 01, 2006 - 08:02
Submitted by ironfist
2006-04-01, Göteborg/San Antonio -- Pegasos.org and Genesi Inc proudly presents a joint venture concerning the EFIKA 2.0. Bill Buck, CEO of Genesi has told you already this card will include an onboard XGI graphics chip, but the biggest news was kept a secret -- until now. In a tiny 100x100 mm PCB area two Freescale MPC5200B SOC-processors running each at 400 MHz are fitted. Together with an onboard Promise FastTrak TX2300 dual SATA-controller, dual LAN and onboard AC'97 audio this computer platform will revolutionize the entire computer market. "We really think this is exactly what the PowerPC geeks wants to play with", says Mr Bill Buck, CEO of Genesi Inc.

To give this platform a real test-drive Pegasos.org will be running its popular Pegasos-portal on two of these EFIKAs. One will hold the SQL-database and one will run the webserver. The case will be a standard Chieftec 1U rack with four 10000 RPM 150 GB Western Digital Raptor harddrives - mirrored RAID for the webserver and striped for the database. "With Pegasos.org currently serving over two-hundred thousand visitors a month this will be the perfect performance test for this new baby. Low power and high performance is exactly what we need with today's electric power costs.", says Mr Kristian Eklund, Chief Editor of Pegasos.org. The trial period will start within three months and will not interfere with single-CPU EFIKA Developer Programs.

Interview with POWER Chip Inventor
Posted by: ironfist on Saturday, February 25, 2006 - 09:55
Submitted by ironfist
I found a rather old (about a month) interview with IBM Chief Scientist Frank Soltis. He was there when the POWER and PowerPC chips were invented. He worked on the AS/400 in 1990.
The interview gives us a brief history about the POWER and PowerPC chips over the last fifteen years.

Read it over at TechWorld.
