Hi there

MorphOS 1.4.2 is now available on the beta2 FTP server.

However, due to bandwidth limitations, one restriction will be imposed for the next few days: Only four concurrent connections will be allowed.

This is done to ensure that the line won't break down completely from 50+ users downloading at the same time, and that when a person connects, he gets a fair amount of bandwidth.

On the up side, people who are upgrading from earlier 1.4 releases will only have to download the boot.img file for his machine. Others can download the full ISO.

If you don't need a full ISO right now, we suggest you only download the update now and download the ISO file in a few days, if you need it. Also, if you don't want to fight with "FTP full" messages, you should wait a day or two before downloading.

If you configure your FTP client to automatically attempt to reconnect, please configure it to wait at least 60 seconds between each attempt.

The full ISO is at /morphosboot-1_4_2.iso.gz, the Pegasos 1 boot.img is at /update/bootpeg1.img and the Pegasos 2 boot.img is at /update/bootpeg2.img on the beta2 FTP site.

If you are installing this update on a Pegasos 1, you have to manually copy the Pegasos 1 boot.img from the CD to your harddisk after the installation. To do so, open a shell and type 'copy cd0:bootpeg1.img bootimgs:boot.img', where "bootimgs" is the partition you chose in the beginning of the installation.

To boot the MorphOS 1.4.2 CD once it has been burned on a CD, do the following:

On a Pegasos 1: Type 'boot /pci/cd bootpeg1.img' at the Open Firmware prompt.

On a Pegasos 2: Type 'boot cd boot.img' at the Open Firmware prompt.

The changes for MorphOS 1.4.2 are:
- The IDE lockup bug has been fixed.
- Real Time Clock load and save problems on Pegasos 2 have been fixed.
- The system clock no longer drifts on Pegasos 2.
- The Exec MEMF_REVERSE memory fragmentation bug has been fixed.

The limit seems to have been increased to 5 users.

5 users at the time ain't that many, I think it's quite sad that Genesi don't allow people to run mirrors of their site (I know many have offered to do that for free and let Genesi to be admin for the ftp).

Hi

We seems to have a lot to discuss Smile

And if this in the end then would be turned badly back onto MorphOS and onto Genesi, what should we do then ?
